Craft as Myth. Between Ideal and Real Life

There are many attributions that associate craftsmanship, its professions, and its products with specific images. We usually only consume the finished products without truly knowing the processes and conditions behind them. Thus, myths are created - stories about ideals and everyday life in craftsmanship.

Die Ausstellung

And then there is everyday life in the workshop. The passion for craftsmanship must overcome challenges such as bureaucracy, the shortage of skilled workers, or the risk of accidents. Craftsmanship builds community, civic life, and unity - especially in challenging times. The guilds recognized this long ago. This exhibition, divided into six chapters, examines some of these myths through objects, interviews, photographs, and films, inviting visitors to rediscover and discuss craftsmanship.

Being creatively

Being creatively active with one’s hands is a basic human need. With interactive activities, workshops, guided tours, and discussion rounds, the exhibition offers a space for encounters and exchanges about craftsmanship after the tour - demonstrating that museums today, more than ever, provide a social space.
